"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed,
shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him." ~ Psalm 126:5-6

~First Experiences at SO (Prt.2)~

Alright, here is part 2 of the series, "First Experiences at SO"...

We're living, for right now, in the wooden home that the Adams used to live in. We'll get a bamboo hut sometime after the rainy season is over. It sounds like the bamboo is much better, then, for building with. Right now, it's really small, so they can't make good huts.

Our home

We have exercises after worship. Tharamoo Gayle Haberkam starts us off with a bunch of body building exercises and many kinds of stretches. Then, we go and jog and fast walk on the road on the 100 acres across the public road from us. The children and teachers smile at me and I smile at them when we pass each other.  They are more than half of the enjoyment of the exercise time. Some of the younger girls take turns holding onto my hands and arms when we're jogging/walking. And sometime one of them will be my buddy for the whole time. I'll slow down to their pace.

Then, the kids and the staff who are in charge and who want to join did some work on the grounds between that and breakfast. The last time I was working with them, I had fun getting large rocks from those who got them out of the creek, and I and most of the girls would put them in the mud and puddles in the main road into the lime orchard. It started to rain. It was quite fun even though it meant getting quite muddy and almost soaking wet. :) The students love it when we work with them. It means a lot to them, and I believe it's one of the greatest ways that we have to bond with them. This time is also a very good time to do laundry and bucket showers.

Then we have breakfast....and then some of the "gohlawas" (including me) have a Karen lesson with Tharamoo Kuhtee who lives a little ways from the school. Dad, Hannah, and I had our first lesson, today. We are practicing reading/writing and speaking some of their consonants and vowels, right now.

The rest of the day until supper which is at 5 something is left up to whatever each staff wants and needs to do. The children work most of the day and at least some go to a sewing class. Some of the girls will help the cook get ready for supper.

Children lining up for food. They like to get our food for us.
